                 Chama means "Here they Wrestled" in Tewa    

The Rio Chama is 140 miles long, starting in the South San Juan Wilderness, (Archuleta County CO - just

North of the NM/CO Border). It flows south, then east to it’s confluence with the Rio Grande River at Ohkay Owingeh

Pueblo NM. It is the one of the largest tributaries of the Rio Grande River.

                                 RIO GRANDE RIVER

    Third longest river in the US - 1,887 miles - (The Mississippi is 2,340 miles long).  The Rio Grande begins

                               Means "Muddy River

      It begins in NW Sandoval County near the Continental Divide, it flows South past Cuba NM,

      continuing in a Southern direction to its confluence with the Rio Grande River  22 miles North of

      Socorro NM. Two Tributaries, the North Fork begins Northwest NM, & the South Fork in the Zuni

      Mountains, East of Gallup NM, it empties into the Rio Puerco at Houck AZ.  170 Miles Long

                                   SAN JUAN RIVER

                   Navajo, “Old Age River” -  Spanish.  “The Mad River" 

                                 366 miles long - 86 miles in CO

          It starts near Wolf Creek Pass CO (Montezuma Peak), it flows into the Navajo Reservoir

          (one arm of the Navajo Reservoir) then goes West, downstream to Farmington NM

          where it joins with it’s tributaries the Animas & La Plata Rivers.  It continues West across

          Southern UT, to empty into the Colorado River at Lake Powell (one arm of Lake Powell).

          Other tributaries are the Los Pinos, Piedra & Mancos Rivers -
